Matt Robinson

ROS-Industrial Consortium Americas Program Manager, Southwest Research Institute

Mr. Robinson is the Program Manager for the ROS-Industrial Consortium – Americas, in his current role he is tasked with setting the strategy and vision to align the open source development community with industry needs. Prior to his current role, Mr. Robinson was team leader for Caterpillar’s Manufacturing Technology Automation Research. Here, Mr. Robinson led development and deployment of automation tools to improve the performance and productivity of Caterpillar manufacturing facilities around the globe. Mr. Robinson, during this time, also led manufacturing value stream design initiatives that led to the deployment of over 50 robotic/automated manufacturing systems around the world. Mr. Robinson has a Master’s Degree in Welding Engineering from Ohio State University.

Michael Ripperger - swri

Michael Ripperger

ROS-Industrial Consortium Americas Technical Lead, Southwest Research Institute

Michael Ripperger is a Senior Research Engineer at Southwest Research Institute. He leads the development, design, and deployment of advanced “scan and plan” robotics systems, which use sensor data to autonomously perform various manufacturing tasks with minimal user guidance. In these efforts he has developed software for the perception, tool path and motion planning, hardware interface, and user interface components of these applications. He currently serves as the software lead for several automation projects in a variety of fields, including the Advanced Automation for Agile Aerospace Applications (A5) program.

MARIA VERGO - ARTC

ROS-Industrial Consortium Asia Pacific Program Manager, ASTAR Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre

Ms. Vergo manages the ROS-Industrial Asia Pacific Consortium. She envisioned a future world where robot utilisation for the Industrial applications is ubiquitous.

Ms Vergo has extensive experiences in Industrial automation, having served the industry in various capacities, from engineering, pre-sales, business development and marketing. Prior to joining her current organization, Ms. Vergo was the global team lead to incubate business at Yokogawa newly formed robotics division.

Ms Maria graduated from University of New South Wales with 1st Class Honours in Chemical Engineering and has recently completed her Master of Technology in Digital Leadership from the National University of Singapore.

Vishnuprasad Prachandabhanu works as a Research Associate at Fraunhofer IPA, where he has been working on different research and technology transfer projects and introducing open source to industrial automation. Before joining Fraunhofer IPA, he worked as a Robotic Software Developer at IWT Wirtschaft und Technik GmbH, contributing to various research projects aimed at digitalizing industries. Vishnuprasad Prachandabhanu holds a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Ravensburg Weingarten University.

Gijs van der Hoorn is a researcher at the Delft Robotics Institute and the Delft BioRobotics Laboratory of the Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands. His main interests include software engineering in experimental robotics contexts, industrial robotics and factory automation. Gijs received his Master of Science in Computer Science from the Technical University of Delft.

Mr. Edwards is a co-founder at PlusOne Robotics. He has a decade of experience conceptualizing, designing, and deploying robotics and automation systems for factory automation. Prior to founding ROS-I, he was a visiting researcher at Willow Garage. Mr. Edwards received his Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University.

Mr. Hvass is a co-founder and COO at PlusOne Robotics. Mr. Hvass established the ROS-Industrial Consortium at Southwest Research Institute in 2013.

Levi Armstrong

Former ROS-Industrial Consortium Americas Technical Lead, Southwest Research Institute

Mr. Armstrong served as the Technical Lead for the ROS-Industrial Consortium Americas and a Lead Engineer in the Adaptive Technologies Section at SwRI. Armstrong has developed technical knowledge in optimization-based motion planning, meshing, collision detection and calibration to develop custom automation solution for industry. Prior to his current role, Armstrong was an engineer at Bell Textron focusing on low-cost composite manufacturing to leverage automation in the areas of drilling, routing, deburring, machining, and heat treatments to meet aerospace engineering specifications. He holds a B.S. and M.E. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Former ROS-Industrial Consortium Asia Pacific Program Manager, A*STAR Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre

Min Ling Chan served as the Asia Pacific Consortium Manager 2017-2018. She is currently the Head of Industrial R&D and Head of Industry 4.0, Industrial Asia Pacific, Schaeffler Singapore.

She holds a double degree in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science from RMIT University, Australia. She has worked in various manufacturing industries in Asia Pacific, Germany, Belgium and Australia, ranging from air compressors to automotive with Ford Australia. Prior to this role she is a co-founder of the ROS-Industrial Consortium Asia-Pacific with A*STAR in Singapore. There she was instrumental in growing robotic application development in industry through ROS development and adoption in Asia Pacific.

Mr. Unemyr served as the Asia Pacific Consortium Manager 2018-2021. He received his Master of Science degree from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. Prior to ROS-Industrial, he spent majority of his career in industrial MNCs delivering software and hardware products all the way from concept to mass-production. Erik holds 10 patents within the fields of printing applications and image processing.

Former ROS-Industrial Consortium Asia Pacific Program Manager, A*STAR Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre

Mr. Lee manages the ROS-Industrial Consortium Asia Pacific, where he aims to proliferate ROS adoption and advanced robotic applications to be successfully deployed in industry and commercial applications.

He helped to pioneer the inception of the ARTC Smart Manufacturing Joint Lab in 2017, a 60 million dollar programme, set up in collaboration with Rolls Royce and SAESL (Singapore Aero Engine Services Pte Ltd). This programme was established as a long-term Public-Private Partnership relationship to accelerate the development and implementation of digital and adaptive manufacturing solutions for the aerospace industry.

Mr. Lee graduated from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore with a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering (BME) specializing in Mechatronics and Masters of Science (MSc) in Systems and Project Management.

Christoph Hellmann Santos joined Fraunhofer IPA in 2016, after finishing his studies of mechanical engineering at Karlsruhe Insititue of Technology and his diploma of engineering at the french school Arts et Métiers ParisTech. At Fraunhofer IPA, he has been working in different research and technology transfer projects (ROBOTT-NET, ROSIN, agROBOfood and others). From 2019 to 2024 he managed the research group for software engineering and system integration and was the ROS-Industrial Consortium Europe Project Manager from 2020 to january 2024.

Mirko Bordignon

Former ROS-Industrial Consortium Europe Progam Manager, Fraunhofer IPA

Dr. Bordignon was a Senior Expert at Fraunhofer IPA, which he joined after spending four years in industry developing on-board and traffic control software for automated guided vehicles. As a graduate student and later postdoctoral researcher he investigated and developed novel software toolchains for modular robotics based on model-based code generation and domain-specific languages. He received BS and MS degrees from the University of Padova, Italy, and a PhD from the University of Southern Denmark. He held visiting positions at Örebro University, Sweden, and Harvard University, USA.

Dr. Ulrich Reiser was heading the group for software engineering and system integration which aims at increasing the efficiency of both industrial and service robot application development. He holds a PhD from the University of Stuttgart in the area of software engineering for complex service robots. He was involved in various European research projects, e.g. COGNIRON, BRICS, SRS and R3-COP. He now is CEO of Mojin Robotics).

Florian Weisshardt finished his studies of “Mechatronics and Automation” with the focus on Robot Systems at the University of Stuttgart in 2009. Since 2009 he was working as a Research Associate and project manager at the Service Robotics Group at Fraunhofer IPA in the field of System Engineering and Software Development for Service Robots. He was leading several national and international founded projects and coordinating the Open Source Software development for the Service Robot Care-O-bot and ROS-Industrial. He is now CTO of Mojin Robotics.

Dr. Martijn Wisse is co-founder and associate professor of the TU Delft Robotics Institute. He heads the agile manufacturing research in Delft, and coordinates several national and international research projects within this theme such as "Factory-in-a-Day". Martijn has also co-founded two spin-off companies in the field of agile robotics. He holds a PhD in mechanical engineering for bio-inspired robotics from Delft University of Technology.

Thilo Zimmermann was a senior project manager at Fraunhofer IPA in Stuttgart, Germany, until June 2020. From 2008-2020, he has managed several European (FP6, FP7 & H2020) as well as German funded research projects on both national and regional level in robotics and AI research. He holds a master degree in business administration (Diplom-Kaufmann) from University of Augsburg, Germany, and a Certificat d'Etudes Politiques Europeenes of IEP de Strasbourg, France.
